A cup of tea fit for a King!

2845-kings-choice-mug

Just got a few minutes to spare but I'd like you all to admire this wonderful mug. It reminds me of a similar vessel I purchased in the shop at Windsor Castle not so long ago, with a picture of the Queen on. I might have to buy this princely piece too, to complete the pairing.

On the cushion rampage...

P1011328

I'm definitely my mother's daughter. I've bought two cushions for my sofa in as many weeks. It's border-line obsessive behaviour - I mean how many cushions can one sofa hold? How many cushions do you really need? Where does it all end?!

I think you know you've a cushion too many when you actually have to move the blasted things out of the way, just to perch yourself on the edge of the sofa. Still, as long as it all looks pretty and uber stylish, right?

I got this vintage-looking needle-worked number from TK Maxx last week, for the princely sum of £14.99. I was in the queue for the till, waiting to pay for some totally unrelated stuff, when I clocked a lovely looking old lady armed with two of the aforementioned cushions, one in each colourway. I almost bull-dozed her over in my haste to enquire if there were any more left and headed straight to the 'Home' department. I was then faced with a quandary, well two, in fact: which size to get? The £14.99 version or the larger £29.99 style? And which colour? Punky pink/red or patriotic blue?

As you'll see from the pic, I unleashed my inner Joan Jett and go all 'Gawd save The Queen'. I'm sure ma'am would give the latest addition to my rapidly expanding collection of cushions the Royal seal of approval.

In case you thought I was fibbing in my earlier post...

...I wasn't. I really DO have a tea-towel embellished with diamante cherries. It's so pretty that I refuse to actually use it, for fear of ruining it. So it's a (get this) SHOW tea-towel. Yup, just for show, casually hanging in the kitchen, and certainly NOT to be used to mop up spillages or to remove hot dishes from the oven (does anyone else do that, or is it just me? Even though I have a perfectly good pair of oven gloves...)

So, anyway, here is my diamante cherry tea towel, as fresh as the day I brought it home from TK Maxx. Blingin'.

Chicken Soup: a hug in a bowl

Warhol-campbells-chicken_no

Why is it that when you're ill, a steaming bowl of chicken soup is just so comforting? Especially when it's home-made with love - I used the left overs of my roast dinner on Sunday to make my very own chicken soup on Monday - added loads of veg and it was delish. Just like a hug in a bowl.

Home Sweet Home

I'm going through a real cushion phase at the moment. I blame my mum. I've also inherited her need to hunt and gather pretty tea towels. I mean, I even own a kitsch looking tea towel with red diamante cherries on it. How practical. But anyway, it's all about cushions for now (and it's no coincidence that the nights are drawing in and X factor is on the telly, oh no). Whilst out shopping last week, I picked up this 'Home Sweet Home' cushion from Cargo. With it's appliqued design and blanket-stitched edging, it has a real crafty feel to it - as though I made it myself. Which of course I didn't. And for just £12.99, I won't have to enroll on a needlepoint class just yet...
